Overview

Fat Bao is a vibrant Taiwanese restaurant nestled in the heart of Paris’s 9th arrondissement at 10 Rue de la Boule Rouge. This small yet lively spot brings the essence of Taiwan’s street food culture directly to the city, creating an immersive dining experience for both locals and visitors craving authentic flavors.

The menu centers around classic Taiwanese staples with a modern twist—highlighting the famed Pork Belly Bao, Taiwan Fried Chicken, and delicate Tea Eggs. The bao buns, soft and pillowy, come packed with rich fillings like the Fried Chicken Bao and spicy S&P Shrimp, delivering bold yet balanced tastes. The Fried Chicken Bowl and refreshing Wasabi Smashed Cucumbers offer hearty and fresh options, rounding out the palate beautifully.

One of the signature highlights is the Pork Belly Bao, a succulent, melt-in-the-mouth main dish that reflects the care put into crafting every item. Complementary sides like Creamy Mango Sago provide a sweet, cooling finish, while creative drinks such as the Taipei Mule and house-made Lemonade elevate the meal with subtle flair.

The interior echoes the vibe of bustling Taiwanese streets, complete with authentic signage and playful touches like mini laundry lines, enhancing the sensory journey. However, the space is compact and can feel quite busy and noisy during peak hours—an authentic trait of street-side eateries, though it may not suit diners seeking quiet comfort.

Service here wins high marks, with warm, multilingual staff who foster a welcoming atmosphere, making guests feel like part of the vibrant community. The restaurant appeals to adventurous food lovers and fans of casual dining who appreciate rich cultural flavors intertwined with a relaxed, dynamic environment.

While most dishes impress with quality and authenticity, some, like the famed soup dumplings, occasionally suffer from technical hiccups such as steaming issues that cause the soup inside to leak. Nevertheless, the depth of flavor remains strong, and these minor flaws do little to diminish the overall enjoyment.

In summary, Fat Bao offers a lively gateway to Taiwanese comfort food in Paris. Its combination of bold flavors, attentive service, and immersive décor make it a destination worth seeking out for those eager to explore genuine Taiwanese eats amidst the City of Light.

Overall, I really enjoyed this restaurant. The service was fantastic as was the food. Very delicious. It's a really small place so it feels really cramped and it's super noisy. The decor is also really fun with authentic Taiwanese signs (it's too bad they don't serve the food shown in some of the signs, like stinky tofu!). My only gripe was the way they steamed and served the fat dumplings. These are supposed to be like xiao long bao, or soup dumplings. As the name suggests, the feature is the soup inside the dumplings. Sadly, because they were steamed too close together, they tore when I tried to separate them, causing all the delicious soup inside to leak out. Flavor-wise, they were wonderful. They just need to use a bigger steamer so the dumplings aren't touching.

It was hands down the best meal we had in Paris, every dish was delicious and perfectly prepared, and the drinks were just as amazing. The staff and owners were genuinely warm and welcoming from start to finish. Can’t wait to come back and hopefully see them again someday in Guadalajara, Mexico

Fun, tasty, quick and affordable. The food was delicious, service friendly (multiple languages), and prices affordable. I liked the vibe - recreating a street scene in the restaurant even with mini clothes hanging out to dry! Cute! We had buns, dumplings and veggies. All very tasty!! They also serve beer.

Amazing food! We came back twice within a week. We ordered cucumbers, aubergines, pork/chicken bao, Taiwanese chicken, dumplings, home lemonade, black sesame crème brûlée and mochi. The food is amazing. Only dumplings taste the same as in other places, but the rest is incredible. One minus - the chicken bao with kimchi barely has any kimchi, should be definitely more. Lemonade really tasty, crème brûlée really interesting, mochi also good.

One of my best bao in my life! Sometimes bao bread doesn’t give much taste but this restaurant was different. All the ingredients are tasty and look fresh. The chicken bao, pork dumplings and aubergine dish are great. The black sesame crème brule is something you shouldn’t miss.

Great place for dumplings and baos (they are amazing). The room is a bit tiny but the atmosphere is super nice and the service kind and efficient. And they play good music as well.
